It is officially announced that Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main will be there from next year for admission to engineering and pharmacy courses, instead of Gujarat Combined Entrance Test (GUJCET).The notification clears that 50 per cent weightage will be given to JEE Main score while the marks obtained in higher secondary or Class XII examinations will be considered for the remaining weightage.
According to the notification, instead of percentage, candidates’ percentile rank will be taken into consideration for the merit list. Application forms for JEE Main will be accepted only online.
The state government took the decision following an announcement by CBSE to replace the existing All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) with JEE Main, which will be held on April 7, 2013.
There will be only objective type questions and the question paper will be available in English, Hindi and Gujarati languages. There will be only one question paper with questions from physics, chemistry and mathematics.
The notification said that JEE Main would save the students from appearing at three examinations like AIEEE, GUJCET and IIT-JEE if they wanted to join any National Institute of Technology (NIT) or engineering and pharmacy institutes in the state.
As for IIT-JEE, the notification said the central government and IIT council had decided that any student willing to join IIT would have to be in the top 1.5 lakh students in the JEE Main exam, and must have secured 80 per cent or more in their board examinations.
